Protein at a price

It was horrific. The sign said it all.

Positively shocking.

Clare and I went to browse the local gourmet supermarket tonight. Amongst the dips, smoked meats and cheeses, was a deliciously succulent looking t-bone.

Terrific marbling, good thickness, colour and texture. Recently cut, and importantly - Australian. Carn 'straya.

But the price? THB$1250/kg. In terms of purchasing power here in Thailand, that equates to a steak worth AUD$124/kg at home (on an average Thai professional salary).

Definitely a luxury item.

(Apologies for the poor quality photo - I was only able to take this on my phone)

Yep, I've found the ideal job for you. As an importer of Aussie meat - could 'cut' (so to speak) a deal with the rels at Bocobra/Gumble. They currently don't have any beef 'on the hoof' but plenty of prime lambs. Pricey incidentially though, has just turned 14 sheep into cuts and snags, so perhaps he could be an immediate contact for you. At even half that price - what a boon!

I have to wonder though, how much the man in the elastic-sided boots is getting. The photo was really good considering it was a phone one. Lovya M

Ah ...... I missed a pun - 'Pricey', must be slipping in the lame humour.

I actually met a bloke who does just that - and makes some serious money in the process. Perhaps I can start something up with the boys...

But I may need to do some market research. If you're able to get a few chops over here, I'd be extremely appreciative...

Wouldn't that be 'just lovely' (to quote a little Irish lady close to our hearts), and no doubt the market research would be 'relished' by you. (lame I know I just can't help myself!) M xx

Forgot to mention that I reckon the plastic vegs really help to sell this high-end product.
